A discrete-time stochastic process model for the streamwise component
of the fluid velocity vector in turbulence is proposed and compared to
data. The stochastic processes considered are sums of independent aut
oregressions having particular distributional properties. The model si
multaneously describes important time-domain and frequency-domain aspe
cts of turbulence, in particular the distribution of the instantaneous
value of the velocity and Kolmogorov's 5/3-law. A continuous-time mod
el with similar properties is briefly discussed.
