Chromosomal homologies between human chromosomes 3 and 14 and the hors
e karyotype have been established, by using human chromosome-specific
DNA libraries in heterologous chromosome painting experiments called Z
OO-FISH. Biotin-labelled DNA libraries from flow-sorted human chromoso
mes 3 and 14 were used as probes for fluorescence in-situ hybridizatio
n (FISH) on horse chromosomes. Human DNA library 3 hybridized to equin
e chromosomes 16 and 19, identifying and delineating two segments of h
omology. Human DNA library 14 hybridized to equine chromosomes 1 and 2
4 or 25.
