K. Okimoto et al., FACTORS CORRELATED WITH CRANIOMANDIBULAR DISORDERS IN YOUNG AND OLDERADULTS, The International journal of prosthodontics, 9(2), 1996, pp. 171-178
This study was conducted to examine prevalence of craniomandibular dis
orders in young adults compared with that in older subjects. In additi
on, the relationship between various oral conditions and this dysfunct
ion was studied. No difference was found in the incidence of cranioman
dibular disorders between the groups. Classification according to the
Helkimo index showed significant difference in complaints of cranioman
dibular disorders symptoms between the groups. Most of the older patie
nts did not complain of mild disorders. The results suggest that condi
tions such as the number of teeth, presence or absence of dentures, an
d the type of denture worn are not important factors in the pathogenes
is of craniomandibular disorders.
