Abstract
Smectic copolysiloxane polymers can be obtained by co-grafting two, sm ectic monomers onto poly(methyl hydrosiloxane). The ratio of the monom ers in the copolymers is characterized by H-1 NMR. The mesomorphic pro perties of copolysiloxane polymers are studied by optical microscopy, DSC, and X-raf diffraction. The effects of the monomer ratio on the li quid crystalline texture, isotropization temperature, enthalpy changes of liquid crystal/isotropic transition, and layer spacing (d(1)) of t hese polymers are discussed.
