The method of multiple scales is employed to analyze the interaction o
f SH modes in an elastic plate having periodically corrugated outerfac
es. Two types of resonant conditions leading to two-mode as well as fo
ur-mode interactions are considered. The results of the analysis are u
tilized to develop ultrasonic mechanical wave filters operating on fre
quency bands centered al the resonant frequency. The stop-band filter
frequency response is presented in terms of the power reflection coeff
icient. The characteristics of reflection of these filters are enhance
d by imposing amplitude taper on the periodic corrugations.
