Abstract
ErF3 belongs to the YF3 type of structure. The nuclear structure has b een refined in the paramagnetic state by powder neutron scattering at 13 K. At T-N = 1.05(3) K ErF3 undergoes a magnetic phase transition fr om the paramagnetic to a 3-D ordered antiferromagnetic state. The magn etic space group is Pn'm'a' with k = (0, 0, 0) and lattice constants a = 6.341(2) Angstrom, b = 6.834(2) Angstrom and c = 4.3714(9) Angstrom at 0.25 K. Erbium occupies the special site (4c) with magnetic moment s mu(x) = 3.34(6) mu(B), mu(y) = 0 and mu(z) = 5.75(8) mu(B) i.e. \mu\ = 6.65(9) mu(B) per Er3+.
