Hs. Li et al., STRUCTURE AND MAGNETIC-PROPERTIES OF THE TERNARY COMPOUND GD-3(FE, TI)(29), Journal of physics. Condensed matter, 8(16), 1996, pp. 2881-2886
The ternary compound Gd-3(Fe, Ti)(29), which has the monoclinic Nd-3(F
e, Ti)(29) structure, has ben successfully prepared from a starting co
mposition of Gd8.5Fe86Ti5.5 by annealing at 1080 degrees C for 3 d. Th
e Gd:Fe:Ti ratio for 3:29, determined by energy dispersive x-ray analy
sis (EDAX), is 9.1:85.7:5.2. Thermo-gravimetric analysis gives a magne
tic ordering temperature of 524(3) K for Gd-3(Fe, Ti)(29). The lattice
parameters, determined by refinement of powder x-ray diffraction data
, are a = 10.6409(16) Angstrom, b = 8.5658(9) Angstrom, c = 9.7375(15)
Angstrom and beta = 97.017(14)degrees. Fe-57 Mossbauer measurements o
n Gd-3(Fe, Ti)(29) yield an average hyperfine field of 24.4(2) T at 29
3 K, which corresponds to an average Fe magnetic moment of about 1.6 m
u(B).
