Abstract
This paper presents a new approach to the design of an integrated AC/D C system using variable structure systems theory based on the concepts of sliding mode control. The sliding mode control constrains the syst em motion to a state trajectory and provides greater robustness and in sensitivity to plant parameter variations and is practically realisabl e. The paper highlights the designs of DC link current regulator and g amma modulation controllers for fast transient stability of an AC/DC s ystem.
