The acidity of the nucleoside, nosylamino-2-methylthio-5-nitroso-6-oxo
-pyrimidine dine (H(2)GP) has been studied by potentiometric methods.
Complexes of H(2)GP with Ni-II, Cu-II, Zn-II, Cd-II, Hg-II and Ag-I we
re prepared and characterized by conductivity measurements, i.r., elec
tronic, H-1 and C-13-n.m.r. spectroscopies, and magnetic and thermal m
easurements. The nucleoside shows a number of different coordination m
odes in the various complexes isolated, acting as a chelating agent, e
ither through C(6)=O and the NO group or through C(6)=O and the N(1) a
tom, or alternatively as a monodentate ligand through the C(6)=O group
.
