Abstract
The forward ring imaging Cherenkov detector of DELPHI covers the forwa rd region between 15 degrees < theta < 35 degrees and 145 degrees < th eta < 165 degrees. The full detector was operated during the 1994 LEP run period. The background reduction algorithms applied to the 1994 da ta are presented. The observed Cherenkov angle distributions for track s with saturated angles are used to evaluate the performance of the al gorithms. Results are given for dimuon and hadronic events.
