This paper describes the development of a finite element analysis prog
ram for the nonlinear and time-dependent Reynolds equation based on an
incremental formulation. This program can be utilized to predict the
dynamic behavior of gas-lubricated grooved journal bearings. The accur
acy of the program is clearly demonstrated through analyses of both no
n grooved and grooved journal bearings.
