Abstract
We construct a simple model of a nanocrystalline material in which all the grains are the same size and shape, and in which all the grain bo undaries are crystallographically identical. We show that the model na nocrystal has a low-temperature specific-heat anomaly similar to that seen in experiment, which arises from the presence of low-frequency ph onons localized at the grain boundaries.
