The phase composition and microstructure of Fe5Co70Si15B10 obtained in
a nanocrystalline state by crystallization of the initially amorphous
alloy were studied using electron microscopy. We applied the crystall
ization at 923K for 10 s to refine the grains in the alloy and to comp
are ifs magnetic and mechanical properties with those of the alloy cry
stallized by the conventional procedure. Rapid crystallization of a me
tallic glass at an elevated temperature under rapid heating and coolin
g was shown to result in significant gain in the coercive force, reman
ent magnetization, microhardness and strength.
