Preliminary study of samples and video tapes from the Equanaute cruise
(June 1992), collected along the southern slope of the Ivory Coast-Gh
ana continental margin characterizes a specific lithology and an inten
se brittle deformation of the sedimentary cover of deltaic origin and
probable Early Cretaceous age. Initial analysis of observed compressiv
e structures implies that the Ivory Coast-Ghana ridge corresponds to a
fractured sedimentary wedge associated with a major dextral NE-SW str
ike-slip motion, active during the Early Cretaceous times.
