The lower part of the ''Dolomie de Deglene'' (Rhar Roubane Mountains,
Western Algeria) has been dated from the Middle Aalenian by the discov
ery of a terebratulid fauna referred to the genus Stroudithyris. This
new datum allows a better correlation between this shallow water facie
s (like the ''Dalle des Hauts-Plateaux'' in Morocco) and the open-sea
sediments deposited eastward and northward (ammonite bearing lenticula
r micrites and Zoophycos limestones).
