Abstract
A technique for calculating the Casimir effect in the presence of sphe rical surfaces is presented. Unlike in earlier works, zeta-function re gularization is used from the start and the properties of Bessel and r elated zeta-functions are central. New results concerning these functi ons are given and our examples of application fully agree with previou s knowledge.
