Rk. Islamgaliev et al., THE FEATURES OF THE NANOCRYSTALLINE STRUCTURE IN GERMANIUM SUBJECT TOSEVERE PLASTIC-DEFORMATION, Nanostructured materials, 6(1-4), 1995, pp. 381-384
The features of the nanocrystalline (NC) structure in germanium subjec
t to severe plastic deformation (SPD) are examined in this paper. Tran
smission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray analysis and differential sc
anning calorimetry (DSC) were employed in the structural study of germ
anium specimens. After annealing at 850 degrees C the crystallites in
the NC state have non-equilibrium grain boundaries (GB) with a ''sprea
d'' diffraction contrast in inclined GB. The dynamical theory of contr
ast was used for the analysis of the diffraction GB contrast in NC ger
manium. The connection of the ''spread'' contrast with the elastic mic
rostrains in NC materials is discussed.
