Abstract
Superficial silicon introduction using laser treatment after predeposi t of Si or Si3N4 gives to a weakly alloyed ferritic steel an excellent resistance to oxidation in isothermal or cyclical conditions. The pre sence of silicon makes the formation of a protective layer of Cr2O3 po ssible even when the chromium content would not allow it in the absenc e of silicon.
