S. Berenzon et al., PSYCHOACTIVE DRUG CONSUMPTION TENDENCIES AMONG JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH-SCHOOL-STUDENTS IN MEXICO-CITY, 1993, Salud mental, 19(1), 1996, pp. 1-5
We present the most important prevalence results on drug use, most use
d drugs, problems related to drug use, and the most affected subgroups
. 10,879 high school students of private and public schools were selec
ted from schools in the 16 different ''delegations'' of the Federal Di
strict. Results show that tobacco and alcohol are the most important p
roblems. Nearly half of the students in the sample have smoked at leas
t once in their life time (a slightly larger proportion among men). A
direct proportional increment was alse found according to age. 74 % of
the students had drank, at least once, alcoholic beverages. 65 % dran
k then during the last year and 25 % drank during the month previous t
o the study. As for to drugs, students used inhalants more frequently
(4.82 %) than marihuana (3.58 %) and cocaine (1.66 %). In the previous
month marihuana was used more than any other drug, (1.17 %) followed
by inhalants (1.05 %).
