Speckled, lentiginous nevus (SLN) is a congenital pigmented lesion in
which macules or papules are superimposed on a light brown background
patch. Histopathologically a lentigo-like pattern is visible in the ba
ckground area, while junctional or compound nevi are found in the dott
ed maculopapular lesions. We describe a case of SLN localized on the r
ight foot of a 57-year-old woman. The particular distribution of this
lesion permits a discussion about the confusion of morphological terms
used to indicate SLN or lentiginosis. Moreover we point out the probl
ems about strict diagnostic criteria for SLN and the prognostic value
of this lesion.
