Abstract
We prepared new compounds with the hexendiyne unit as central bridging group. The substances are nematic, with clearing temperatures much hi gher than those of other two ring compounds. They show the highest bir efringence ever observed in liquid crystals, modest viscosities and me dium dielectric anisotropy. Their stability in low polar mixtures allo ws their use in displays.
