Abstract
Ten enzyme systems were studied for polymorphism in the parents and th e progeny of crosses between carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus) genotyp es, The inheritance of nine isozyme loci was determined: three of them code for alanyl aminopeptidase (Aap-1, Aap-2, and Aap-3), two for glu tamate-oxalacetate transaminase (Got-1 and Got-3), and one for each of esterase (Est-2), phosphoglucoisomerase (Pgi-2), phosphoglucomutase ( Pgm-2), and shikimate dehydrogenase (Sdh-1), A 10th gene, Mmm, was pro posed to be a modifier of the mobility of the mitochondrial malate deh ydrogenase isozyme, The expression pattern of these 10 enzymes in diff erent tissues and their subcellular localization was analyzed, The exi stence of 10 additional monomorphic isozyme genes was inferred from ou r data: GPgd-1 and 6Pgd-2 from d-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, Adh-1 from alcohol dehydrogenase, Gdh-1 from glutamate dehydrogenase Mdh-1, Mdh-2 and Mdh-3 from malate dehydrogenase, and Got-2, Pgi-1, and Pgm- 1 for enzymes with other polymorphic isozymes, One linkage group with five enzyme loci was established (Pgi-2/Aap-3/ Aap-2/Got-1/Got-3), Com parison between this linkage group and other similar link age associat ions in other distant species is discussed.
