Abstract
The Department of Space, Government of India, recognized the need for harnessing space technology for various applications and acquired stat e-of-art capabilities in the development and establishment of operatio nal remote sensing satellites, Considering the success of IRS series s o far, the Department of Space took up the development of IRS-1C satel lite. The IRS-1C satellite is an improved version of the earlier IRS m issions, both in terms of sensor and re-visit capabilities. The Nation al Remote Sensing Agency at Hyderabad, India, receives and processes d ata from remote sensing satellites, including IRS-1C, In this article we give details on the entire gamut of data processing facilities incl uding filming, photo processing and quality control facilities, and al so give detailed account of the various systems-both hardware and soft ware, As great emphasis is placed by DOS on ensuring quality of the se nsors as well as data acquisition and processing systems, therefore, d ata quality evaluation is also dealt with separately in this article.
