A pilot plant program demonstrated the ability of an activated sludge
process to treat the simulated future effluent of Stone-Consolidated C
orporation's newsprint mill in Kenora. A combination of present mill e
ffluent and deink plant effluent at a volumetric ratio of 9:1 was fed
to an activated sludge process incorporating an anaerobic selector. Th
e pilot plant was operated through three trials that consistently met
Ontario's proposed Municipal/Industrial strategy for Abatement (MISA)
monthly average loading limits.
