Abstract
The delta(13)C=O chemical shifts and the carbonyl stretching frequenci es nu(C=O) are affected by their physical surroundings, and informatio n about the chemical structure can be obtained by study of delta(13)C= O and nu(C=O) in various solvents or solvent systems, Solvent acceptor numbers (AN) are not a precise indicator of delta(13)C=O chemical shi fts or nu(C=O) frequencies due to steric factors of both the solute an d solvent, which alters the distance between the sites of solute and s olvent interaction when the same solvent is used for different solutes of a homologous series.
