Rj. Mcgovern et al., THE INDEPENDENCE OF PHYSICAL ATTRACTIVENESS AND SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION IN A FEMALE TWIN POPULATION, The Journal of psychology, 130(2), 1996, pp. 209-219
The relationship between physical attractiveness and symptoms of depre
ssion was investigated in a general population sample of 1,100 female
twins. Photographs were rated by 4 raters. Symptoms of depression were
measured by the Depression subscale of the SCL-54, by a self-rating b
ased on the DSM-III-R, and by an MD diagnosis based on a structured in
terview (SCID). No relationships between ratings of physical attractiv
eness and symptoms of depression were found.
