Abstract
The concept of landscape ecological stability, its protection and reco nstruction are considerably well established in the environmental legi slation of the Czech Republic. Plans and projects both of ecological s tability systems, which are an indispensable prerequisite of land impr ovement, and landscape segments revitalization require the evaluation of desired and present stabilizing functions of the ecologically impor tant segments. Both principal functions (specific) which the segment s hould fulfil principally and other functions stemming from the segment position within a landscape mosaic are considered. A simple method wa s designed to evaluate the stabilizing functions (both desired and rea l) of fundamental landscape segment types including a model illustrati ng the complex evaluation of the environmental effect and pointing out those functions which should be promoted or streamlined.
