To improve the system used by the Russian Federation to measure the ra
te of flow of liquids and gases, research has been undertaken as part
of a program entitled ''System for the Automated Design of Differentia
l-Pressure Flowmeters with Constrictors (DPF ADS). Computing-Search Su
bsystem SKhl.'' The program is based on study of the energy-conservati
on and flow-metering methods employed by certain leading companies (in
particular, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (San Francisco, U.S.), I
SO standards (ISO 5167-1:1991 (E), ISO 5168-1978 (E)), and standards p
resently in effect in Russia (RD 50-213-80 and RD 50-411-83). The most
important results of this research are being published in a series of
related articles (see Measurement Techniques Nos. I and 5 for 1994 an
d Nos. 1, 2, and 3 for 1995).
