The formation constants of Ag(I) complexes with picolinic acid (Hpic):
log beta(01) = 3.89, log beta(02) = 7.09 were determined by potentiom
etry. Using spectroscopy, potentiometry and quantitative analysis, it
was proved that in propylene carbonate an AgL(2) complex of the compos
ition Ag(Hpic)(pic)(0) is formed. The resultant redox systems were des
cribed and their formal potentials were determined by coulometric and
voltammetric measurements: Ag(Hpic)(2)(2+) + e = Ag(Hpic)(2)(+) E(f)(0
) = 1.517 V vs.NHE Ag(pic)(2)(0) + e = Ag(pic)(2)(-) E(f)(0) = 1.449 V
vs.NHE.
