Thin films of single-phase (Bi0.8Pb0.2)2Sr2Ca2Cu3Oy superconductors ha
ve been successfully prepared on MgO (100) substrates by RF magnetron
sputtering followed by an anneal treatment. The films have a preferred
c-axis orientation and a layered structure. They show zero resistance
around 102 K and a sharp transition, DELTAT < 10 K. The critical curr
ent density J(c) is about 10(4) A/cm2 at 10 K and the dependence on th
e temperature follows a power law J(c) is-proportional-to ( 1 - T/T(c)
)alpha with alpha approximately 2 over a range of (1 -T/T(c)) values b
