Abstract
This paper discusses some flow problems for smectic C liquid crystals based on a continuum theory proposed by Leslie, Stewart and Nakagawa. Analyses are presented of certain flow instabilities that can occur, a nd also of a backflow effect that follows the removal of an external f ield.
