A new genus of the subfamily Entedoninae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: E
ulophidae), Perditorulus, is described. Male genitalia in species of t
his genus display extraordinary morphological differences to an extent
which is unique in the Chalcidoidea, and the utility of this characte
r and of male antenna in species identification is demonstrated. The v
alue of male genitalia in chalcid systematics is discussed, and a poss
ible reason for the exceptional development in Perditorulus is conside
red. Perditorulus includes thirty-three species, unless otherwise stat
ed from Mexico: abruptus, angustatus, avirostris, bidenticulatus, bifi
dus, bilobus, calcaratus, crassis-capus, evanescens, falcispinus, fare
tus, flexilis, geniculatus, grandiculus, hastatus, insternatus, langui
discapus, longiparameratus, magnicaulis, mucronatus, parameratulus, pe
nicillatus (Mexico, U.S.A., Canada), pilosus, pinguiscapus (U.S.A.), p
laniscapus, porcodon, punctiscapus, sinuiscapus, trispinus, unispinus,
verticillatus, woolleyi (Mexico, U.S.A.), and zolnerowichi. Perditoru
lus is considered most closely related to Omphale Haliday.
