Abstract
In a modelling effort to mimic the degradation products of haemoglobin , iron(III) proto- and deuteroporphyrin aggregates were synthesised us ing the corresponding iron porphyrin grafted on agarose gel. It is dem onstrated, using resonance-Raman and EPR spectroscopy and magnetic mea surements, that the major molecular species of the aggregates is an un expected monomeric high-spin hydroxoiron(III) porphyrin, whereas the e xpected mu-oxo-bridged dimer is a minor species.
