Starting from H2Fe3(CO)(9)S and HFe3(CO)(9)(SBu(t)) three new nitrosyl
clusters, HFe3(CO)(8)(NO)S, 1, Fe-3(CO)(7)(NO)(2)S, 2, and Fe-3(CO)(8
)(NO)(SBu(t)) 3, have been prepared. The hydride complex dissociates i
n polar solvents as an acid and forms the anion [Fe-3(CO)(8)(NO)S](-),
1a. As shown by their IR, Raman and NMR spectra, 1, 2, and 3 are pres
ent in solution in the form of several isomers. A detailed interpretat
ion of the spectroscopic data is presented.
