According to the technique developed earlier, the diffusion of phospha
te ions and self-diffusion of sodium cations in interlayer spaces of N
a-montmorillonite were studied at different concentrations of NaCl in
the dispersion medium. On the basis of the experimental results, the d
iffusion (self-diffusion) coefficients and the rate constants of adsor
ption (isotope exchange) were calculated. With the effect of electrost
atic retardation taken into account, the viscosity in 1.2-13-nm-thick
liquid symmetrical films was estimated; it was several times higher th
an the viscosity in the bulk of the solution.
