A high pressure polarized He-3 gas target has been used to measure spi
n observables and absolute cross sections for (p over arrow pointing r
ight, 2p) and (p over arrow pointing right,pn) nucleon knockout in qua
sielastic kinematics at 220 MeV. The neutron knockout spin observables
exhibit large deviations from plane wave impulse approximation (PWIA)
calculations and show the importance of rescattering corrections. At
this energy, the proton knockout spin observables differ slightly from
PWIA calculations, especially at low energy transfers (omega), but th
is discrepancy may be resolved when final state interactions between n
ucleons of the two-body recoil scattering state are included. The larg
e rescattering effects observed in the (p over arrow pointing right,pn
) results may have implications for experiments which consider polariz
ed He-3 as a polarized neutron.
