Single crystals of Zn2.28Mg0.72(AsO4)(2) have been prepared by CO2 LAS
ER techniques. The compound crystallizes with monoclinic symmetry spac
e group C-2h(5)-P2(1)/n and the lattice parameters a = 5.292(2), b = 8
.450(3), c = 7.737(3) Angstrom, beta = 96.33(3)degrees, Z = 2. Zn2.28M
g0.72(AsO4)(2) is isotypic to beta-Zn-3(AsO4)(2). The formation of the
beta-Zn-3(AsO4)(2) structure instead of other possible orthoarsenates
is discussed.
