Abstract
We calculate the real part of the two-neutron-removal polarization pot ential for the case of Li-11+Pb-208 collisions at energies near and be low the Coulomb barrier. The real part of V(pol) is shown to be predom inantly repulsive and to reduce the fusion cross section at above barr ier energies. Below the barrier this potential changes sign and thus e nhances the fusion cross section. However, this effect is considerably weaker than the hindrance produced by the imaginary part of this pote ntial.
