Abstract
Using the tight-binding model, we investigate the influence of a singl e-impurity on the persistent charge current in one-dimensional mesosco pic rings threaded by a magnetic flux. We use a parameter to describe the impurity scattering, and obtain the ground state energy and the pe rsistent current. Tn particular, we find that there may be a spontaneo us Aharonov-Bohm effect due to the impurity in this system regardless of the number of electrons. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
