A theoretical model of nuclear spin conversion in gaseous CH3F induced
by collisions with magnetic particles has been developed. The spin co
nversion rate in CH3F molecules embedded in oxygen was found to be equ
al to gamma/P = 1.2 x 10(-5) s(-1)/Torr, having low isotope dependence
. These results allowed us to conclude that collisions with magnetic p
articles cannot be the main mechanism behind the spin conversion in CH
3F observed earlier.
