Abstract
Jean-Francois Trape and Christophe Rogier present epidemiological data and an analysis of the relationship between transmission, morbidity a nd mortality from malaria which suggest that any intervention aiming t o reduce transmission will not, on a long-term basis, reduce the burde n of malaria in the majority of epidemiological contexts observed in t ropical Africa.
