Abstract
Structural characteristics in membranes formed by diffusion induced ph ase separation processes are discussed. Established theories on membra ne formation from ternary systems can be extended to describe the effe cts of high or low molecular weight additives. A mechanism for the for mation of nodular structures in the top layer of ultrafiltration membr anes is presented. In the last part structures arising from polymer cr ystallization during immersion precipitation are discussed.
