Abstract
Using a semiconductor switching technique, we generate subnanosecond F ar infrared pulses and investigate the anharmonic decay rates of high frequency acoustic phonons in LaF3:Pr3+ (0.5 %). We generated a nonequ ilibrium phonon population at 113 cm(-1) and obtained phonon transient s of the decay products at 55 and 75 cm(-1).
