This paper presents the results of a study on college students' use of
a fake I.D. to obtain alcohol. Nearly one-half of the respondents to
a survey on this subject indicated that they had engaged in this behav
ior, Students who belong to a fraternity or sorority were much more li
kely than other students to report that they had used a fake I.D. to o

s to indicate that they had engaged in this behavior. Two of the major
components of social learning theory, differential associations and d
efinitions, were strongly associated with using a fake I.D. ro obtain
alcohol. frequency of drinking was also strongly related to this behav
ior. Recommendations for ameliorating this problem are made based upon
the results of this research.
