Six new Tolyposporium species are described on members of Cyperaceae f
rom Australia: T. mesomelaenae Websdane & K. Vanky (type on Mesomelaen
a pseudostygia (Kuk.) K. L. Wilson), T. melanosporum Websdane T. & K.
Vanky (type on Mesomelaena graciliceps (C. B. Clarke) K. L. Wilson, T.
evandrae Websdane & K. Vanky (type on Evandra aristata R. Br.), T. ca
ustidis K. Vanky (type on Caustis blakei Kuk.), T. tricostulariae Webs
dane & K. Vanky (type on Tricostularia neesii Lehm.), and T. cyathocha
etae Websdane & K. Vanky (holotype on Cyathochaeta avenacea Benth., pa
ratype on C. clandestina (R. Br.) Benth.), A further Tolyposporium on
Mesomelaena stygia (R. Br.) Nees, with a great variability and irregul
arity of the spores and spore balls, is also presented. The possible c
auses of the occurence of anomalous spores acid spore balls between ''
regular'' spore balls, observed in some other Tolyposporium too (thoug
h in small percentage), are discussed. A key to the 18 known Tolypospo
rium species on Cyperaceae is given.
