The differential quadrature method (DQM) is applied to computation of
the eigenvalues of the equations of motion governing the free in-plane
vibration including extensibility of the arch axis and the coupled ou
t-of-plane twist-bending vibrations of circular arches. In-plane buckl
ing and twist-buckling under uniformly distributed radial loads are al
so investigated by this method. Fundamental frequencies and critical l
oads are calculated for circular arches with clamped and simply suppor
ted boundary conditions. Results are compared with existing exact and
numerical solutions by other methods. The method presented gives good
accuracy with a limited number of grid points. Copyright (C) 1996 Else
