Abstract
The vibrations of flexible structures are controlled by an optimal mod al positive position feedback (OMPPF) algorithm whose control forces a re generated by only using modal position signals to provide damping a ction to undamped structural modes. The suboptimal parameters of the O MPPF controller are obtained by casting the synthesis problem as an op timal control problem with incomplete state feedback. The effectivenes s of the algorithm in damping out the vibration of flexible structures is validated experimentally using a cantilevered beam whose multimode s of vibration are controlled by a single piezoelectric actuator.
