Yz. Wang et al., FURTHER OBSERVATIONS OF EARLY FATIGUE-CRACK DEVELOPMENT, Fatigue & fracture of engineering materials & structures, 19(5), 1996, pp. 623-627
A scanning electron microscope (SEM) has been used to examine plastic
replicas taken from the surface of fatigue specimens in order to under
stand the role of microstructure on the early stages of fatigue crack
development under various environmental conditions. This involved shad
owing and coating replicas and pre-marking appropriate areas of intere
st prior to SEM examination.
