Abstract
Aldolase-catalyzed reaction of D-ribose 5-phosphate with dihydroxyacet one phosphate and reduction of the product with triethylsilane affords an alpha-C-D-mannopyranoside (3), through a stereoselective procedure which does not require any protective step.
