With a heat and power plant based on black liquor gasification and a g
as turbine, the energy balance of the mill will change. To what extent
will depend on the choice of gasification process, gas turbine, steam
data, on the type of mill and the possibilities for integrating the c
ooling requirements of the gasification plant with the demand for heat
in the mill. A case study shows that even an integrated mill can beco
me anywhere from self-supporting to a major supplier of electricity. W
ith proper process integration extra fuel will be used at high efficie
ncies. Consequently, there will be a possibility to tailor the propose
d systems to the mill's own needs.
